Today we did a really fun activity using the book I Am Not Just a Scribble. Part of our IB unit is to look deeper into ways that the members who make up a community are different and unique. This book provided a fun and engaging story for students to think about this. Originally it began as just a Fall craft idea and then it blossomed into a classroom community overtaking! The students came up with great ideas that connected to our IB units (things I never even thought of!). We had a whole group discussion (mostly led by students) about what it feels like to be different and excluded (life in the story). Students shared how they think it feels when others are left out and how we can try not to do that. They came up with ideas about how it is cool to be unique. So then they created their unique and different scribbles.
